Even if it's just a coffee and donut, those little spends turn into big money over the run of a year. If you've committed to less takeout and making more of your food and beverages at home to save money, there are kitchen devices, cooking tools and delivery services that will pay for themselves in no time and start saving you real money over whatever expensive alternative is lurking just outside the door.

As part of CNET's ongoing We Do the Math series, we've analyzed several popular home appliances, including water filter pitchers, air fryers, rice cookers and coffee makers.

And we've seen how much each one could save the average person through regular use. Ready to save? Below you'll find the best kitchen tools, appliances and services for saving money, including the projected upfront cost and the potential savings for one year.

I drink a lot of seltzer, so this analysis hit close to home. I thought it would be near impossible to give up crushing cans of LaCroix and Polar, but the decision was made easy once I calculated the savings for using a SodaStream over buying 12 packs on the regular.

After the first year, you can subtract the device cost and the savings get even bigger. This all proved more than enough of a reason for me to kick the can. Even casual air fryer users know that these trendy cookers save time and hassle, and anything that inspires us to cook more and order less will save big bucks in the long run.

But you might not have considered how these countertop convection ovens can also save money on your energy bill. A typical air fryer uses far less energy than a big oven to operate, takes less time to preheat and cooks food faster.

By my calculations using New York's electricity prices, a standard four-quart air fryer costs 25 cents per hour to run. Rice is about as versatile as ingredients get.

Top a bowl of basmati or brown with veggies and meat or a fried egg with some chili oil and you've got yourself a budget-friendly meal. Former CNET editor David Priest caught the rice cooker bug during quarantine and did a breakdown of how much it costs to make a serving of rice at home.

That means you can feed a family or group for pretty cheap if you start with rice and don't go too crazy on the rest of the ingredients. And, if you already have an Instant Pot , it almost definitely has a rice cooker function. Some meal kit services cost about the same or less than buying the groceries yourself.

Plus, you won't have to spend time or energy on shopping and planning meals. Meal kits were once thought to be a costly dinnertime activity to be reserved for date night or a special occasion.

Meal kits alone might not save heaps of money from your bottom-line weekly food spend unless you replace takeout or delivery with them or tend to shop at really expensive supermarkets. That said, many of the meal kits I analyzed cost the same, and sometimes even less than it would to buy the ingredients needed to make the same meals from scratch.

With cost being equal, the big bonus from meal kits comes in the form of convenience since you won't have to spend time -- which famously equals money -- on meal planning, shopping and prepping. These hybrid pressure cookers have been around for decades now and for good reason. The multicookers are easy to use and will turn tough, cheaper cuts of meats into meals you can cut with a butter knife.

Beyond the Instant Pot's prowess for turning budget ingredients into toothsome food, these lil' cookers also use less energy than a wall oven. We did the math to see how much you can save using an Instant Pot over a big oven.

If you're still drinking bottled water, a filter pitcher and reusable water bottle will put money in your pocket. If you're still drinking single-use bottled water around the house, or even outside of the house, it's time to kick that nasty habit.

This pair of tongs from Zyliss is beautifully designed. You can operate them with only one hand, and everything is done ergonomically and with sturdy construction. We have two of them for some reason, but one is all you need! A ladle is essentially a very large, long-handled spoon.

It is used for serving liquid dishes like soups, stews, or sauces. Oven mitts are used in order to protect your hands from being burned when transferring hot food to and from the oven. No longer will you have to wrap your hand in a tea towel and try not to spill your dish or get burned as you pull it out one handed.

Whether you choose to purchase our recommended pick or another option, make sure you have quality oven mitts before beginning any high-heat oven cooking. A good pair of oven mitts is a must have for any kitchen. Instead of ugly cloth trivets that get stained easily, pick up these beautiful bamboo trivets that will last a long time and are easy to clean.

A splatter guard is a device that is placed on top of skillets or sauté pans during high heat cooking in order to stop splattering hot oil and food from coating your stovetop. How many times have you had to clean your oven top and cupboards from splattering grease and oil?

With this fine mesh splatter guard from Progressive International , these clean up days are over. It will fit most pans, is simple to clean and much sturdier than other splatter guards out there, and even has feet so you can set it down after use without leaving a mess on your countertop.

These sponges are tough and will last a many tough jobs in the kitchen. If they get smelly all you have to do is put them in the dishwasher, run a cycle, and they'll come out as good as new.

A quality dish rack is needed because you can place your dishes on the rack and have it drain the water back into the sink.

If you want to fancy your dish rack up, the Zojila Rohan dish rack is the ferrari of dish racks. This is a pricey purchase, but the positive reviews back it up. These trays allow you to release the cubes with a single, simple twist that will get the entire cube out.
