This popular eatery, owned by Richard Blais, offers mouthwatering fried chicken alongside a trimmed-down menu that includes crowd favorites like schmaltz fries. They also feature monthly specials and flock meals that include various chicken options, fries, mini biscuits, classic slaw, chicken nuggets, and chocolate chip cookies.
Slide 1 of Unbelievably good food. The fried chicken is on point; crispy, juicy tender and not greasy. The fries are incredible, a regular was large enough for three of us but we could have easily eaten a large they were so good.
The anti salad was delicious with smoked chicken, quinoa, greens and a hard-boiled egg. We are definitely coming back. Another San Diego staple that has my 3 most important things; great food, great service, and great atmosphere!
Besides the absolutely delicious food, my favorite part was when I asked the cashier for a bigger cup for my water and she trusted me. I was really happy that she trusted me because I have no interest in soft drinks and did not want to have to get up constantly to fill my small water cup.
Both morning and night this place is definitely a hit and I highly recommend it. Staff is super friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is nice too, with a play area on the side. However, food is genuinely mediocre. Fries were completely filled with oil, no potato content at all.
Burger was good, but the chicken looked almost grey. I got the kids' meal for the little ones that came with your choice of grilled chicken or nuggets. I got both, and the nuggets were the only part of everything purchased for everyone that was actually decent.
I guess the atmosphere compensates for the food. All in all - good experience, but meh food. Solid food, solid price. Awesome location located just a few blocks outside of little Italy. Friendly service and a bunch of fried and grilled chicken options that will leave you satisfied!
First fried chicken sandwich from CS. The batter was somewhat flavorless or less seasoned as expected or the slaw overwhelmed the batter. Chicken breast a bit dry for my standards. Good bun. Fries were good dipped in ranch.
There were mixed reviews from my husband and I when we visited this eatery during our SD vacation. We both got the Firebird sandwich and he seemed to love it while it was just not for me. The sauce seemed oily and flavorless.
However, the chicken was juicy and tender. I wish they had a more varied menu. Overall I would recommend for the atmosphere, and I would need to go back to try other sandwiches!
I heard good things about it so I had to experience it myself. Arrived and asked the cashier what she recommended and she read the whole menu for me so I just picked a chicken sandwich and my partner ordered the chicken tenders basket.
Took forever to get the meal so I was expecting the food to be made by angels since it takes them a while to get there. The lettuce was bad like they used old lettuce so it was bitter. The onions was burnt and the bread was stale plus no fries.
The chicken tenders were so dry I could start a fire with it. It tasted like it had been sitting for hours and the fries were so hard you could make powdered fries with the dust.
Laid back, simply really good chicken dishes. Hand cut fries are extremely good. Lots of sauces to add to chicken if desired. Friendly, helpful, cooperative staff. Chicken sand subbing out the thigh for a breast was so good. Gonna ask for extra pickles next time.
Reasonably priced. I ordered The firebird sandwich: super crispy chicken with a nice kick to it. Also the set up is just awesome. You order you and find a seat yourself. They have paper towels on the table. nonalcoholic drinks and all the sauces which are really really good! Highly recommend the pineapple mustard are self serve.
They also have a nice long sink for you to wash your hands! We first came across this place in Las Vegas and were very excited knowing they had a local location in San Diego. We ended up ordering the same sandwiches, they are just that good.
We shared the Firebird and Cali Drip with Shack Fries. Very delicious. Visiting San Diego, before leaving we stopped at The Crack Shack, this place did not disappoint! Everything we ordered was very good and service was fantastic! I wished we have one at NorCal, hoping near future please!
I had the power bowl, delicious, daughter had Coop DeVille, very delicious and moist, husband had the Firebird, he said it was awesome! We shareya side of fries, so crunchy and just the right amount of salty goodness.
We tried all of their sauces, we specifically love love the pineapple mustard, I can drink that straight! We also tried their ube shake with cookie crumble, we got lucky, they only had one order left, this was so creamy and ubelicious!
I'm glad we skipped breakfast and had this instead. During my work visit to San Diego, I stumbled upon The Crack Shack, a local restaurant near my hotel, and I must say, it was an absolute delight! Despite ordering takeout, my experience was memorable from start to finish.
The menu at The Crack Shack boasts a tempting array of dishes, and I couldn't resist trying their renowned fries. While they were slightly on the soggy side, I understand that takeout fries can be challenging to maintain their crispness. Nevertheless, the flavor and seasoning were spot-on, and they still managed to satisfy my craving.
The Crack Shack's overall dining experience was exceptional, earning it a well-deserved five-star rating. The ambiance was vibrant, the staff was friendly and accommodating, and the food, apart from the minor fry situation, exceeded my expectations.
The restaurant exudes a casual and welcoming atmosphere that perfectly complements its delicious offerings. Whether you're a local or just passing through, I highly recommend paying a visit to The Crack Shack. With its fantastic food, warm hospitality, and the understanding that takeaway fries may lose their crispness, this place is a gem that shouldn't be missed.
I can't wait for another opportunity to return and explore more of their mouthwatering menu options! One of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had.
Cool atmosphere with corn hole, bug connect 4, a fire table and big TVs for sports. If you want a chill vibe with delicious chicken food, this place is great! Slide 1 of 3. Hamburger restaurant. Located in Downtown San Diego, Hodad's is a popular burger restaurant with endless toppings and shakes.
It also serves onion rings and other diner favorite items. Slide 1 of 9. Impeccable service with absolutely amazing food. We got really lucky and got to sit in the cute little van too!
Fries are flavorful and crispy with a pillowy inside. Fun spot downtown! Very friendly greeting when we walked in and the service was excellent! Atmosphere is eclectic and the music is loud - my kind of place! Simple menu that is easy to navigate. I tried the bluejay burger with wedges and the wife had mini bacon burger with rings.
The burger so was so good with a great bun and fresh toppings. The blue cheese was super delicious if you like that. I was expecting a thin, normal dressing but this was a chunky spread and it was perfect.
The bacon was so plentiful and crispy - just the way I like it. Onion rings were definitely the tastier side but it was nice to have a variety. Perennial favorite and San Diego classic featuring burgers stacked so high with ingredients that they're practically bigger than your head.
The toppings are fresh and the burgers are moist. The "frings" is a combination of onion rings and fries and is enough for an army. The onion rings on this visit weren't as great as I remember from back in the day.
They were hard rather than crisp. Service is friendly, efficient and accommodating. If you've been staying away from the OB location due to the long line, the downtown location is easier to get into. Upbeat, casual atmosphere.
Very thick and juicy. My party of four ordered two single patty bacon cheeseburgers, shareable half frings onion rings and potato wedges , chicken tenders for the little one, strawberry shake to share, and the Guido burger for myself.
Everything was good, fresh, and hot. The portions were so large that it was too much food for us. We totally could have split burgers but nonetheless I appreciate the hearty portion 😊. While I liked the Guido burger it was too much pastrami for me.
I personally preferred the bite of my son's bacon cheeseburger better. The onion rings and wedges were on point! Decor of Hodad stickers, old license plates, and other surfy things gave a cool vibe. Practically no wait on a Sunday around pm to be seated which was perfect. However, our server was slow to take our order and rarely checked on us.
I'm so grateful to my spicy brown mustard guy our inside joke 😋 for picking up his counterparts slack. You, my friend, were amazing! Will definitely stop by again the next time we're in town 🍽️👍🏽.
My parents and I had heard about Hodad's, and we had to see how amazing these burgers really were. They did not disappoint. They were fresh and cooked to perfection.
I loved whatever sauce was on them - the sauce makes the burger, if you ask me. The decor was fun, and so were all the employees. I would absolutely visit again! Quite easily the best burger I have ever had!!!
I am not usually a fan of bacon in my burger but this was thick yet crisp to perfection. I also had the chilli fries and chocolate milkshake. I was not a big fan of these but knocking any star down does not seem right given I went here for a burger that was amazing!
Great quirky place with a nice ambience and plenty of seating. Service was a little on the slower side. Despite ordering one order of onion rings and two burgers, the food took a very long time to come.
The onions rings were very good and in fact we had heard that the rings are awesome and we came here specifically to taste them. They have two vegetarian options for burgers, one veggie burger and another vegan patty.
The veggie burgers were ok, nothing worth raving about. It is definitely a place worth checking out. We visited San Diego and we had to try this legendary place. We made sure to go before the dinner rush because it does get super packed.
When our food finally came out I was amazed at how big the burgers were and the portion sizes for the frings. The frings were pretty good as well. Place is good, even it is not in a cool place of downtown, food is DELICIOUS, we order a double cheeseburger and we ask to the server if the burger can be split in 2 so we can share it, and they did it, they even put the half of the onion rings and the half of the burger in separe baskets.
Shake is delicious!! is a must! Need a place to stay? Where City name. Rooms, guests. Rooms and guests. Search for hotels. Mentioned on 5 lists. The Taco Stand is a casually-designed Mexican eatery, with locations in San Diego County. The restaurant serves made-to-order tacos and guacamole, as well as house-made corn tortillas.
The goal of the eatery is to deliver a Tijuana cuisine experience north of the border. The quality is amazing. So fresh and flavorful. Made to order and will come out hot.
The Mar y Tierra fries were huuuuuge and definitely for sharing I loved the spicy shrimp taco!! All the tacos come with a shi ton of guac on top which I loved but just an FYI Love the sauce bar in the back. So many sauces and salsas - they were all good lol so try them all 😁.
Some of the best tacos that I had in the downtown area. Al pastor was delicious but Cameron spicy shrimp was average. They have a small seating area and it gets pretty crowded. There was no one to clean up after each party leaves the table, which led to us cleaning the table ourselves.
I randomly popped in here and I'm glad I did. My whole family and I loved it. I ordered the Al Pastor Burrito and it was delicious.
I was impressed by how fresh the salsas were in the salsa bar. My 1 year old son accidentally dropped his drink and the staff made no qualms about it and cleaned it almost immediately.
The staff was friendly and personable. I will visit again. Great, inexpensive place to get authentic Mexican food. Just flew into SD for a short vacation and wanted to go directly to get some fish tacos.
There were tons of places within walking distance from our hotel. This place not only had great reviews but also had great prices! I got a fish taco and elote. My husband got the carne asada taco, steak taco, and a Modelo beer. Every thing was delicious. Tried the one in La Jolla and loved it.
The quality of food is pretty consistent between both places. I had a shrimp taco and a grind chicken taco. Both were delicious!!
The line to order food moved pretty fast. The wait for the food though it took quite some time. Very limited seats for dine-in. You're better off getting your food to go. This was my first stop after stepping off a 6 hour flight and it did not disappoint. Their California Burrito, is the perfect meal when you have an empty stomach, filling and delicious!
Our only regret was not being be able to go again. Was walking around and my nose caught this place before my eyes did. Got the carne asada breakfast burrito and it was super flavorful.
They also have a whole sauce bar that you can pick from and package your own sauces and pickles onions to go. I would definitely stop by here again!
Great service, short wait time, clean environment, and most importantly, the tacos were delicious and made with fresh ingredients. I ordered both the fish tacos and the shrimp taco. I even further customized my order a bit - they did a great job with that too. I would come back again to try the burritos and other tacos.
The best Mexican food I ever tasted in the USA. I lived in NYC, but I could not find any Mexican restaurants that are better than this one. I order a some tacos and one burritos.
I like the shrimp, it tasted delicious with the green sauce. I actually revisited the place the next day because I am so into it. You need to wait for minutes if it is during peak hours.
Tried out The Taco Stand while on a recent visit to San Diego and everything we had was delicious. Tried the chips and guacamole, and I had a special tostada and grilled fish taco.
Everyone's tacos were so good - freshly made, fresh flavors, and really good salsas. And the corn on the cob? Would definitely come back! This is a solid taqueria with a few more options than just tacos.
The tacos are tasty with solid tortillas, and the shrimp were cooked perfectly on the camaron tack, although the carne asada is not quite as good as other places in the area specifically Tacos El Gordo. I also appreciate that they have burritos, chips, and corn on the cob, which has an excellent cheese and chili-lime seasoning, as well as a salsa bar.
If all you want are carne asada tacos, there may be other options. However, if you're looking for some more options, including fish and shrimp, the Taco Stand is an excellent option. Al Pastor even came with pineapple on top. Freshly made tortillas and melt in your mouth chicken and pork.
Tortilla and everything is made fresh in the restaurant. Fast and friendly service. Highly recommend when visiting. The place was very busy even at 3pm on a Saturday. My tacos were wonderful!
The freshly made shells were wonderful. It was nice to be able to add different salsas and toppings from the condiment bar at the back by the soda machine. Mexican restaurant. Spanish restaurant. Las Cuatro Milpas is a San Diego mexican restaurant that has been around since It is known for its homemade tortillas and picnic-table decor.
The menu is short, and you'll want to order everything on it, but make sure to get tacos too - they're amazing with chicken or pork on freshly made tortillas, regular style and rolled up in a napkin for maximum deliciousness.
Good basic inexpensive classic food. Loved the beans and rice and tamale. Their hot sauce is great -- closer to Asian "chili crisp" than the sort of salsa served in Americanized Mexican restaurants. Tortillas are freshly made on site, right in front of you.
Very hearty, very filling food. NOT for the diet-conscious! The charm is is in the authenticity and the history. The food is pretty bland though. has reviews for a great reason. this place is tortilla church. the beans are super delicious and mixed with the tamale is something i never had and would love to come back for.
overall the experience and food here are just unparalleled in most places and therefore this place is hard to beat.
This is one of the top places in San Diego for Mexican food. Very authentic! They have the best floor tortillas. Just plan on buying a dozen to take home. It is a really hard choice whether to eat the rolled tacos or the chicken tacos.
We plan on going anytime we are in the area. MUST GO!! Oh my word, we were only in San Diego for about 36 hours, and we came here twice! Amazing authentic Mexican food 🤤 You have to get extra homemade tortillas!
Cash only and you will stand in line! The four tortillas are incredible as are the burritos. We ordered enough for an army burrito, rolled tacos, regular tacos, tamales, rice and beans, and tortillas and it was all great but the tortillas, burrito, and tamales are what I would order again.
Distinctly not an American hot sauce, not a salsa, not a mole, just a deliciously deep, smoky, semi spicy concoction.
If you want real southwest US Mexican food, this is the place. Reminds me of my grandmother's home made food. Handmade tortillas are unbelievably good. Tacos are perfect as are the beans. Also a bargain.
Came here for lunch off of a recommendation from a local. Line was out the door and down the street! We ordered tacos, a burrito and rice and beans with chorizo.
Everything was fresh and authentic. Delicious, cheap, local food! As far as I can tell, there is always a line - but the food is definitely worth the wait! Hope to be in the area again to get some tacos and beans soon! Small shop with homemade Mexican food. The tamales had the best flavor. We ordered rolled tacos, burrito, rice and beans and a tamale.
Long line for basic food. Getting my San Diego history lesson here. Las Cuatro Milpas is an establishment in San Diego. Everyone is talking about their tacos and tamales.
After reading the Yelp reviews, we came early to try to beat the crowd. But we were still too late. Took us almost half an hour to get to the ordering counter. Once we get there, the ordering process was fast.
The chorizo egg was delicious and authentically Mexican. You have to wrap your own fillings in a provided tortilla. Unlike other California style breakfast chorizo with eggs, this one has rice and very wet sauce.
The taco was fried and filled with tasty meat and bean. The most popular item here is the tamale. For those in the Texas area, Freebirds World Burrito is a great option for a burrito or bowl.
